So I'm regreasing the suspension, working on the driver lower ball joint, when I start thinking "Hmm, I seem to be putting in quite a bit of grease. I'd better stop now before I break something." Sure enough,
The boot is split, but now I know it's well greased :o
How bad is this? Do I need to get it replaced right away?
You're in no immediate danger. Clean off the excess grease and then wrap the boot with several turns of black electrician's tape until you can replace the boot.
Seriously, you can clean out most of the grease and clean the split rubber with some brake cleaner and use super glue to repair the split, this will seal the boot till you have time to change it sometime soon
