Default Cam Identification

I'm in the process of replacing the smog heads on my ride with a set of Vortec heads. The cam had been swapped by the previous owner, but I can't reach the guy any more. Is there a way to find out what type of cam I have with removing it from the block? Any help is appreciated.

I would venture a guess that if you got a degreeing setup and a dial indicator that mounts on the block, you could check duration at .050" and lift at max lift. The CompCams catalog shows how to do it for a new cam, it'd probably be just like that. :smash:

Anything a bit easier to do? Quick places to look for numbers, marks, etc.?

Cam Mfgr and profile should be stamped on end. When you get #'s, post for
info.
