Trip odometer cable
I noticed that my Trip odometer cable does not turn after the reinstall.
I can't remember if it moved before I did the cable changes.
Maybe I kinked the wire, but my question is if I leave this and drive for now will it damage the gears in the tach or odometer, or anything else?
I would rather leave this for a winter fix as I am prepping for new paint now.
Thanks
If you can push in on the cable and reset the trip odometer, the cable is fine. If it is stuck pushed inward, you can damage the drive gear inside the speedometer.
What will happen is this: The trip odometer is driven by another 1:1 ratio gear in direct relation to the odometer. If the cable is stuck inward, this will lock up the trip odometer and cause the gear that drives it to bind when the odometer turns over.
If you just forgot to push upwards and then turn then nothing is wrong.

So I guess what your saying is that I have to disconect before I drive.
Does this sound like a kink that would fix by just rereuting it or do I have to try and get my hand in there to take it off the odometer and replace?
Thanks again
If this fails, you may try un-screwing the cable from the back of the cluster housing. It is real hard to reach and I advise you to use a wrench on the adapter nut made in the housing. This is the part the cable screws in and if you strip it out of the housing you will create a mess. The end of the cable that screws in to the housing also has a nut on it, so you will need two wrenches to remove the cable.
