I took off the hood and removed the radiator. More than enough room.
That was my first mod over seven years ago. I bought "How to Rebuild your Chevy Smallblock" and started tearing the engine down. Pretty straight forward job.

so your gonna pull the Hood, Radiator, condensor, water pump,belts alternator, timing cover, intake/carb/Dist., Oil pan, valve covers, lifters,
then reassemble and setup your rockers along with a whole bunch of other stuff, while leaning over your car ?
Man that makes my Back hurt just thinking about it !
these cars are like looking down into a hole their so low.
I know it can be done, but I would consider the miles on the motor.
and consider pulling the motor, with possible going thu whole motor.
if you only do rings and bearings, the cost is min.
building a motor on a stand is fun and comfortable,
rebuilding a motor in a Vette is Not.
of course if somebody else is doing the actual work, no problem !
