Default '68 seat removal problem - help

Feel free to direct me to an archive link, I have tried to research this without finding what I think I need. I am redoing a '68 interior while I am waiting to finish the engine. It is a '68 with t-tops and the removable rear window. I'm stuck at removing the seats. I have located the bolts holding the tracks down, but they just spin, in a wierd manner. I looked underneath the car and nothing seemed clearly related. If I am dealing with broken welded bolts, I'll go ahead and demolish what I have to to get the seats out. Otherwise, really looking for advice. Thanks a lot, Jeff

Hi Jeff,
The front track bolts screw into nuts that are welded to underbody re-inforcemant plates that are riveted to the underbody. The plates are about 4" x16". The nuts are probably broken loose from the plate.
The rear bolts are threaded into plates that are also riveted to the underbody. These plates are about 2" square. The only way the bolts could be spinning is if the plates have broken loose from the body.
Regards,
Alan

Yep, maybe you can have someone get a wrench onto the nuts welded to the plates and unscrew the bolts from the top. Otherwise, a sawzall, grinder, etc. should get'm loose.

New plates are available. Hopefully the original rivet holes on the bottom of the floor pan are OK and you can rivet the new plates back in the exact position.
