I have been reading the threads on harmonic balancers. Does anyone have any thoughts on matching a balancer to a rotating assembly? I have a 540 BB. It seems to me that the torsional vibration characteristics may be different than a 454 even. Do currently availale dampers cover multiple frequencies and are they self tuning? It would seem that maybe the fluid dampers might be more universal than rubber. The engine is street with occasional hard pulls. It has an internally balanced rotating assembly and an aluminum flywheel.
Definitly get an aftermarket balancer. The 454 is an external balancer anyway so you do not want one of them. Fluidamper is a good one but there are several others that are good also. I run a Fluidamper and Ilike the fully degreed balancer also. I run mine to 7000 rpm and it works very well. Can the stock one and get a good aftermarket one.
