I just did the bearings on my 75, one side is set @ .002 & the other .005 for end play but i have up and down movement when i grab the wheel not much but i can move it, is this normal? Thanks
When the rear wheel bearings are set up correctly as you have them you will feel up and down play at the wheel if you hold you hand at the top and bottom and push/pull in and out.
If your clearance is as stated, you’ll be fine! Just think of it as a fulcrum where the movement at the spindle my be very small, by the time you move outward 16 inches it feels like excessive play. If you are sure about your end play then you should not have any problems.
At 003 endplay you'll feel the spindle move in/out by hand. This is with the arm off the car,in a vise. At 005 with the wheel on you will feel a lot more play.
I would watch the brakes for air pumping. If so you may have to install new bearings on the 005 side.
I set mine to 0015 on the setup tool.
I,m not getting any air pumping from the brakes, With the wheel off i can,t move the spindle anyway except the way its supposed too. so i guess the play i get with the wheel on is normal ?
If the brakes are good then drive it. I've taken apart plenty of original spindles and some that were rebuilt and they range all over the place. It's not uncommon to find originals with 004-005 endplay. My original 72 was 004" @ 50k miles. The ones to be concerned about are the some setup by people who leave out the shims, don't check the endplay, damage the spindles, etc.
Thanks for the help gtr & everybody. I posted a thread the other day about rear end noise after a tranny shop took the 4.11,s out and put 3.55,s in And they said it was the wheel bearings, well i brought it back after doing the bearings cause it still made the same noise, turns out it was a side yoke bearing. They are fixing it for free after alot of yelling, but just thougt i,d mention it cause most guys that gave me advice on that thread are the same on this 1 Thanks again.

Side yoke bearing? I replace those as part of a rebuild, usually they are good. I would keep an ear open when you drive it again.
The side yoke that the bearing went on was ruined, I got a used one but their is .060 diff from the snap ring grove to the end compared too the original, Is this still alright to use? I would have just got a new one but i,am in ontario and it,s at least a week to get part,s from the states. Getting anxious the car has been down almost the hole summer runnin out of time snows comin. Thank,s
I would say that side yoke is totally shot, and you have lost the hardened material on the end of the yoke. I'm trying to go from memory but I recall the needed distance from the groove is .187".
