Default steering column

i have a 1977 corvette with a telescopic tilt steering column. in 1977 the corvettes came with the telescopic and standard.. can i put a standard back in this car with out any problems. will it be same length, and all the switches like the telescopic? is it just as simple as pulling out the telescopic and putting in just a standard one?

I'm not really sure how easy it would be, but why would you WANT to...if you don't mind me asking?

I'm for sure not trying to tell you how to go about this, but my gut feeling is that rebuilding or fixing your column would still be easier than installing a non. Even if the tele didn't work, the tilt is awesome, and it's taken for granted a lot.

Okay I can kind of see better where you are coming from.

First though, check the harmonica connector under the column. It's where the wiring goes up into and back down. Those connections sometimes need a little cleaning and to be re-seated. I have seen a case where unplugging and replugging meant the difference for signals that didn't work.

If that fixes that, the tele parts are fairly easy to come by and rebuilding that part is all right at the top of the column.

I'm just saying, since I don't have any experience changing to a non T/T column.

I took a standard column out of my 71 and rebuilt a 77 T/T off of ebay and installed it just fine. It lined right up using all of the same mounts and bolts. I am going to have to redo some of the wiring to use everything on the column.

If you decide to fix yours, here is a walkthrough on when I rebuild the 77:

Hope it helps.

Yes it is that simple, but why not just get your column fixed?
