Default Main earth cable?

my main earth cable, connects just underneath chassis engine mount, on my old engine there was a bolt in the mid section of the block, which the earth connected to engine, but on my new engine cant see that hole for that bolt, anywhere else I can connect it to on block, its on the starter motor side

cheers

One of the 3 motor mount bolts will work fine.

Two?

I'd think one of the bolts that holds on the starter would be a good way to attach to the engine. I also ran a ground wire from an alternator/bracket bolt (maybe a 10 gauge wire) to ground.

One thing interesting to think about. Lets say the impedance (resistance) of your ground is, say 2 milliohms. 2 milliohms will look actually show up as 0 ohms on most ohmmeters. The starter can draw 200 or more amperes turning the engine. 2 milliohms will cause the engine block to be 0.2 vDC, or more, above ground, while running the starter motor.

Factory bolted it to the same bolt as the starter support bracket...

On my header equipted black79 I pulled it forward and attached it with the same bolt that the lower AC support attaches with, near the fuel pump.

Maybe I don't understand. Each motor mount only has one bolt. Two motor mounts = 2 bolts. Am I missing something??

Actually, the entire engine/bellhousing/transmission stack is held on with only four bolts; one bolt for each of the two motor mounts and two bolts where the transmission bolts onto the crossmember bracket. So I can see talking about 2 bolts, or maybe even 4, but I can't visualize a three bolt situation.

were talking about the 3 bolts that hold the engine mounts to the side of the block

YOU talking of the slip bolts going fore/aft and not the 3 bolts from the engine/rubber side of the mount that hold it to the block....if you don't go to the engine block directly, wether the engine mount bolt to the block OR the starter bolt, the thing will never start, much less probably fry some other wiring almost instantaly...depending on unknowns....
