polished factory wheels
10 hours of hand sanding each wheel with 2000 grit wet sand paper and then finishing off with mothers wheel polish will make the factory wheels look likel]

this was after a little bit of polishing but before they were completely done.....this was before knock off center hubs were available and i had to enlarge the middle hole to make the center knock offs fit

after all the work....mid-america came out with knock off centers for vettes and they also starting stocking chrome stock wheels...boy, they look really good...

I did all 4 of mine in 2 afternoons (maybe 12 hours total) but I started with 800 grit wet and worked up to 1500 and then 2000 followed by coarse rubbing compound and final with one coat polishing compound by buffer and one by hand. Have done a few wheel polish applications since to brighten them a bit.

I don't know if this would make it easier, but when we used to polish the frames and rims on our motorcycles, we would just sand or strip off the paint and use an angle grinder with a polishing wheel that we would use different grit componds until you get to the jewlers rouge. I also had a set of rims done by a professional and it was done the same way. The angle grinder has good torque and you can put a little more pressure on it when you are polishing. I think home depot used to carry the wheels and componds. the end result was just like crome but less effort than trying to do it by hand and a lot faster.
