Yesterday received the Horn Contact assembly, lower. The instructions only provided information for cutting the aluminum pin. The assembly has three pieces an aluminum pin that has been cut to ¾” long for the 81, spring, and a plastic extension insulator. No instruction provided for assembling the three pieces. Does anyone have information assembling these three pieces?
Spring goes in the hole first. Then assemble the pin into the insulator. Now with the head down towards the spring, push down on the insulator, twist and lock. The pin should be sticking up and be springy.
Okay, I will try this tonight.
The upper horn contact assembly has a leg projecting from the bottom, what is the position of this leg to the lower pin contact?
THE LEG will be in the 10 o 'clock position. the black thingy that goes over the spring has like a little lever on it. as said above the spring goes first. then the nail looking thing with the head down, then the black plastic thing over the top of that and twist clockwise to lock that in place. you will be left with the end of the spring hanging out of the horn area. then just 3 shims, the horn contact and bolt it all down. oh and pull the fuse, it annoys the neighbors a real lot! ask me how i know...

The leg will go right on top of the pin.Looks like it might slip off but once its all in it works fine.
I don't won't to hijack your thread, but I have an additional question as I have been chasing an intermittent issue with the horn on my '70. I have isolated it the components within the steering column by being able to ground horns at connector block under the dash and it works fine.
Does the black wire to the lower horn contact switch run straight to the block connecter under dash or does it come off the ignition switch?
If I understand you guys correctly, there are contacts and springs on both sides of the cancelling cam? (I need to get a wheel puller to access the inner components so I'm kind of blind right now.)
