Default fan clutch oil

has any one tried filling their fan clutch with silicone oil ? my fan clutch has minimal free-play,but it has no resistance. ,i removed the bimetal plate & the piston moves free. toyota sells silicone fluid for their vehicles . it's the original dated '68, i would like to save it. any advise or bench testing specs ?

That is interesting. Do you have any pictures? I have never seen one apart.

You can use the Toyota clutch oil, or radio control car differential oil. The hobby shop oil is cheaper if you can find it. A 10 ml ORAL syringe ( no needle) makes it a little easier to get the oil in the reservoir.
There was a really good article about restoring fan clutches in the NCRS magazine, THE RESTORER, Vol.33, Number 4, Spring 2007.

Alan
