I'm looking to replace my 82s hologen bulbs because they have a mind of their own and they are over 10 years old! What are my options for a good bulb that doesn't cost $100+? THANKS

I think Silverstar makes a replacement and their bulbs are nice and crisp and bright.
Just reassurance, how do you keep the lights up to work on them while the engine is shut off?
Two ways. Just shut the engine off with the headlights on, and then after the engine is off simply turn off the switch. The lights will go out but they should stay up.
Or, you can reach up through one of the openings under the nose, push up, get a hold of the light, and pull it up until it locks in the up position.

This won't work.

This will work, or you could just use the overide switch.
Is it because of the year? Every Corvette I have owned did this, where if the headlights were on when the engine was shut off they stayed up even after the switch was pushed back in.

If the system holds vacuum like it should, after the engine shuts off the lights will go back down when the switch is turned off.
My lights will turn off when I kill the engine, but will physically stay up with the engine off. This is how I work on them when I need to... I simply turn the car back on and switch the lights off and they go back down. They may not be correctly functioning according to stored vacuum to bring them back down, but that is what they do....
Ideally the storage can and check valve should store enough vacuum to send the lights down. If they don't, you may have a bad check valve or leaky bottle/hose. The override switch is just for this purpose, why not use it?
