i have a little problem. when i drive my 73 for a while and it gets good and warmed up. then when i shut it off it will not start with the key. has power to everything but starter. jump the starter and it fires right up. short trips always restarts, i replaced ignition switch and fuseable link at starter. is there a relay or something that is getting hot. any ideas?
more details ? after it is hot, and you turn the key does the starter click ?
open the hood and listen for the click, when you hit the key.
you say jump the starter,
do you mean short the start contact to the the battery 12volt lug?
Turn your lights on, do they dim when you hit the key ?
put a meter down to the start terminal, are you getting full 12vdc with key start?

no click just dead no power at starter selinoid. yes jump starter to 12 volt it starts. when this happens i have not had meter to check. always away from shop when it happens. very imbarrasing.
OK, No Voltage on the start terminal,
That's the purple wire ? start tracing the wire from here.
looking for your 12V only when the key is pushed to the start position.
Start Wire--goes thru the fuse box. (to Inside
To the Cluch Enterlock -- which goes thru the Harmonica connector.
which goes to the starter Switch, which should connect to
+12V Battery.
Check where the start wire goes thru the firewall,
at the fuse box this is a possible bad connection in the this area.
You will have to dissassebmle the fuse box housing.
(But do it..)
you could possible still have factory Fuse links at the starter,
IF so that also could be your problem......69VETT
I had this exact same problem with my 1969. Mine has headers close to the starter and the starters on these cars are VERY sensitive to heat. I put a heat shield over the starter and that solved the problem.
