ok this is a silly one but hey im 21 and i love my vette.... and watch way too many movies.
can anyone tell me how to get flames out of my side pipes. ive been considering the flame kits online but i dont know if they work with the slip in mufflers and i really dont want to drill a hole in my chrome babies
will tuning the carb to run rich get a nice flame? i know when i stomp on the gas and let off after a second it usually gets that great pop but no flame.. anyways if anyone knows about this let me know... at least it will keep those Ford guys from trying to yell crap at me as i fly by
Setting it up so rich that a nice flame come out the sidepipes will mean that your engine will run like crap and the Ford guys will be laughing at you as they blow your doors off. Be content with the rumble of the sidepipes and set up the engine for go, not show.
When you watch racing, they have a burst of flame on downshifts, but then, they are running on a motor that has 20 to 1 compression ratio or higher, with race gas, and are built to handle that.
That popping sound is from the air and unburnt exhaust gases igniting...the air is getting in through the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe flange. I suppose if you wanted to get some actual flame coming out then you can switch your ignition off for a split second (maybe 4 revolutions of the engine) then switch it back on. But, keep in mind that this kind of thing has been known to blow the exhaust pipes off cars that have poor ignition systems which cut out and then immediately cuts back in.
You don't need to monkey with engine tunings...just use your common sense.
