I just got done installing my new distributor cap, rotor, new coil, plugs etc. and I'm noticing the screw things whatever you call them with the little "L" shaped bottoms that are supposed to hold the cap from being loose aren't going on like they should. Any one else have this problem, stupid I know but its the first time I've put one on, didn't wanna doing anything wrong. Any other way to keep it in place?
Theres a RAMP on the bottom of the distributor that the L shaped lever rides up on and snaps into the groove that it secures to the Distrubitor base. Like it was previously mentioned, it turns only ONE way. Are you turning it in the correct direction?
Duct tape and 25# fishing line might work for a while but, NO, there is no other correct way to attach the cap except as stated above by 69Vette and Bill. If you are still having trouble, remove the cap and feel or use a mirror to see where the "L" shaped lever is supposed to fit and everything will become apparent.
