Default Oily rear end housing

My rear end Chuck is always oily around the front support bracket. I cleaned it and after a trip like the one to Carlisle everything was wet. But not all over the rear end. Just left and right sides of housing. Nothing on the half shafts. It doesn't look like it is coming from the front seal. That pretty much clean. Could it be coming from the vent on top of the rear end housing????. I checked the gear fluid level before the trip and it was fine. Knock on wood. This is the only leak I have. I fixed all, but this one. Some help would be nice.

Steve,
If the front of the diff is oily then it most likely is the pinion seal. The vent is on the upper LH corner of the rear cover, hardly likely the oil would flow forward driving. The diff would have had to have been overfilled as well.
Look up my thread on replacing the pinion seal with pictures to help you. If you can't find it here look in Barry K web site.

Thanks Gary for the heads up. How do I get to your thread?

Gary,
I'd be interested in a link too. This is one of my last leaks to fix.

Thanks in advance,
Jason
