After a complete Top-End rebuild of my 79 L-48, I have oil passing by the PCV. I installed an oil catch can which has resolved the issue of oil making it to the intake manifold. A compression check on all the cylinders revealed no problems before the build. Vette runs strong for an L-48 with 64K original miles. With compression increasing due to the build is this why I am now noticing this issue? If so, what is the fix if any?
just how much oil do you have in that line? there should be oil present as thats what the pcv valve does is take excess blow by / gases and due to the crankcase oil be pushed around like it is with the lifters there will be SOME oil present in the pcv line.
if it is passing right through completely then the valve is not working and needs to be replaced. around 4 bucks or so
Does your valve cover have an oil-spray baffle below the PCV valve location? If not, the oil is just spraying directly into it and it would be almost impossible for it not to leak out. If you haven't changed valve covers (or PCV location) and the oil problem is new, maybe the PCV valve is stuck open.

This is a new problem after the build. New heads were installed and there is a baffle below the PCV. There is about a mouthful of oil in the catch can after driving it a few times. PCV was used previously before the build and appears to be working.
Which valve cover is your PCV in? There was a thread on the forum awhile back that said the PCV needs to be in the drivers side valve cover. Apparently, it's easier for oil to get sucked up by the PCV when installed on the passenger side.

First thing I thought of: Aftermarket valve covers were put on with engine work?
Pull the PCV valve out of the cover and start the engine. If oil is slinging out the hole, then the baffles aren't doing their job. If no oil is coming out, that is not your problem.
If you still have a 350 block (or not too much larger), just go with the PCV that is specified for your year/model/engine of Corvette.
Thanks, 7T1vette. I'm also guessing that if the baffles are not doing their job as you specified then it might be time to look for new valve covers. I'll try your suggestion later today.
