I was wondering if I could refinish and paint the antena plate I know that where the ground strap attaches and where the antena is placed into shouid'nt be painted but the aluminum plate is what I want to paint and not sure if it's there just for stuctual support ONLY or is it for any help in radio reception. Thanks for any info

I believe it provides a ground plane to help with radio reception. Since that thing mounts way up inside the rear fender, I can't imagine why you want to paint it. The only one who will see it is someone you just ran over!

I know it sounds stupid painting it, but I have it out and it is pitted so I figured why not maybe it can last another 37 years and not fall apart. Plus the guy I run over might see it all pitted!
Hi 19LEW71,
When you run over the guy make sure he lands face up or he'll miss your handiwork and you'll have to go back and flip him over and run over him again!!!

Alan
