Th400 Rebuild Time
Well my th400 finally took a dump so its time to rebuild. Whats a good kit. I have been looking at some I found on ebay. Would these kits be good or is there another one. Im trying to rebuild this thing on the cheap. It already has a transgo reprogramming kit and a adjustable modulator. Thanks for the help.

It appears neither kit has the metal clutch plates. Plus you may find that you need to replace some hard parts once you open it up. If it were me I would be looking at an OD trans. You wont regret it.

I would choose the second kit for $54, it has better materials on the clutches IMO. Also, try and get a video or book from library or other source if you've never done rebuild before. You'll need 11 to 12 quarts of quality fluid (with empty converter), some assembly grease or substitute (use sparingly) and a thin, narrow feeler gauge for installing lip seals. I didn't see a filter listed in the kits but those can be bought locally at a NAPA if you're missing it. I didn't see bushings in the kit either, you'll need as a minimum the pump bushing and the proper bushing driver to install it. It's preferable to install all 4 bushings though, they're not expensive. Check out last Car Craft issue on TH350 overhaul, it'll clue you in on the pump removal procedure and a few other tips about clearances. Also, flush the cooler if you have a significant amount of metal in the system.
