At the Cruise for a Cure I went by a vendors booth. Not from the forum. They sold a unit that looked to be an attachment to the transmission. I don't ask a lot of questions because cash is short right now. (Supplemental Corvette Budget bill of 2008 still hasn't passed the "Wife of Congress") It is a "gear box" of a sort , but it is attached in some way to the output shaft on the tranny. I'm thinking that would be the same as having a 2 or maybe 3 speed rear axle. What is your knowledge or thought. I sure Gary gtr1999 knows.

Ray,
These overdrive units have been around for quite a while and I have not heard anything bad about them, but I think that they're a waste of money, especially in a Corvette. The trans tunnel is quite small and the unit may not fit without some surgery, and your tailshaft will also have to be shortened or swapped for a shorter one. Yes, you can do it, but there is a better way.
Look up one of the Forum vendors such as Tremec, Bow Tie Overdrives or Classic Chevy 5 Speeds and consider replacing your direct drive ( top gear) transmission with an overdrive five or six speed transmission. Some of them will allow you to retain your stock driveshaft, so you will save even more money.
