Default Gauges and Console

I purchased a 77 corvette about 7 years ago dirt cheap. I am finally able to get around to fixing it up a little by little.

It has been sitting for 3 years with no work done to it until the last 3 months.

My next job I want to tackle is getting all the gauges to work. I think the speedometer used to work when I first got it, but I can not say that with all certainty. I do know that there were some gauges that did not work, just not sure which ones or if any worked then or not.

I know the bright light indicator works, the blinker lights work, the gas empty light works (stays on even though it is full). The console back lights do not.

The gas gauge is the only one that does work.

The odomotor does not work either.

Ok, I wanted to give as much information as possible to help get a better response. My question is, where should I look first to try and diagnose the problem. And if that is good where do I look next.

I did look at the fuses, they looked to be in good shape.

I have already found wonderful information in these forums to fix other things, Thanks to every one for all the useful information.

Well, since the speedo is the only mechanical gauge you have, we need symptoms from the electrical gauges that are not working.

The speedo can be fixed with a simple cable swap...or if you have cruise...a transducer swap.

The tach could have a burned circuit, or a bad connection at the HEI distributor.

The wire for the temp and oil senders may have fallen off or been burned or been cut...same for volt meter...and the clock might just need to be rebuilt or replaced.

Symptoms and how they read will help a lot in figuring out what is wrong with them.

So they don't take power to work? Since none of them worked I thought maybe there was no power getting to them.

You say symptoms, unfortunately there are none, they do nothing.

Is there any way to test the transducer? To see if that is the problem?
