I plan to upgrade my cam and I need to know how much valve lift I can use without contacting the piston. I am looking at a Comp cam with 510 intake and 520 exhaust at .050. I have Edelbrock 60759 heads with 70cc combustion chambers, 1.5/ 1 rocker arms. Your help is appreciated
my '82 went into the RevXtreme shops last month for a transmission rebuild, but it came home minus the Cross-Fire, with a Holley 300-48 intake and a #4777 carb, including with a 700R4 & converter, rated at 500+ HP/TQ:
someday in the future, I hope to put a bigger stick in my L-83 (along with vortec heads and a matching intake), so I'd like to have this information, too.
I don't think you're going to get a definitive answer here - too many variables, especially cam timing. A mock-up is the only "for sure" means to determine piston/valve clearance. There's an old GEN I rule-of-thumb that stated .490 lift was the max lift "without checking"...but it's a pretty expen$ive mistake if that turns out not to be the case.
