Almost everyone offers carpet kits....trouble is choosing one and hoping that it fits good. I got mine for my '81 from Auto Custom Carpet...color was perfect....fit was not, and since the edges of the carpet were finished, I could not just trim to fit. I do not know who actually makes the carpet kits; hopefully others will add what vendors have the kits with the good fit.
One thing to do when you do your carpet replacement is to put the heat insulation down and also some for sound.
Wilcox is good, so is ACC. I automatically assume trimming is involved in a new carpet set, I have never seen one just drop right in. Then again I am a perfectionist at fit.
I agree with the above , Wilcox ,I did my whole interior last year and it fit great, don't forget the matt under the carpet ,Home Depot 15.00 and it cuts down the heat and noise works great!!!! Ron
Ron, not to Hi Jack the thread, but what is the cut off on Canadian import tax on cars and parts? I was under the impression that anything over thirty years was exempt?
The biggest problem that I had is the side panels for the center console. The old panels are made of a hardboard material. This causes the mounting screws to not hold properly and where the carpet is supposed to tuck under the console all you can see is the edge of the carpet. What I did is get some sheet aluminum that is in the neighborhood of about 3/32 inch thick. Use the old panels as templates. Glue the carpet on with spray adhesive.
Good Luck,
Steve
We have the fiberboard panels available, and when we install them the carpet sections are a little larger than the panels. We just scoot them upward on the panel a little bit. If you do this it will not show the edge of the carpet and the shift console plate and the parking brake console actually has a ledge in it to allow the carpet to fit up in to it when done this way.
Most old panels will have screws pulled through them. To correct this problem you can use the interior trim washers under the screw. This allows for more bite in the panel and will not allow the Phillips head screw to pull through the panel.
