Jim is the expert. I have a 79 column that I will be installing in my 72 this fall/winter. I am doing a 5 speed conversion for a forum member and when that is done I will be doing the column transplant. Jim has been a wealth of info on this and I will take some pics of the "modified" column when I do it. I will be trial fitting on my buddys 73 while we have the column out for the pedal swap for the 5 speed.
Thanks guy's your right i just went out to measure it, i think i could blow the horn w/my nose. I'll find a tilt somewhere (wife is pregnant ) and bitches a lot about driving.
The 69-75 which is a direct bolt in are goingto be expensive. I have seen junk go for 300 to 400 and fully restored go for 1000. The 77-82 are much more reasonable and they are actually 2 inches shorter than the early ones. This is what I wanted. The only mod according to Jim is the plastic housing has to be trimmed somewhat. It also puts the high beam switch on the column instead of the floor. I have a 79 all apart right now and I also have another 79 that is in decent shape. Might need it for reference.
