Default Body Mounts - Rubber or Poly??

I've just finished removing all 8 body mount bolts from my '74 as I have to replace the #3 crossmember (rusted thru BIG TIME.... Obviously I have a big job ahead of me). Only 3 of the 8 bolts came out without having to get the sawz-all involved and I have to purchase a new kit.

I was wondering if I should replace the bodymounts with rubber or polyurethane. You guys have any thoughts.... pro & cons, etc.

Thanks in advance.

The rubber mounts were introduced in '73 as a method of reducing road vibration being transmitted to the cabin.

Poly mounts are an excellent way of negating that product improvement. Your call.

Polyurethane will stay mach longer, the rubber will dry out after 2-3 years.

I have no intention of replacing mine more than once. After seeing the condition of the original rubber ones; without a doubt poly is the replacement.

Sounds a little arrogant, don'tya think ? Everybody not agreeing with your point of view is negating the product ? At least the aluminum did not dry rot and crumble after a few years. Poly is better than rubber and softer than aluminum.

About 10 years ago I had a car in with polys and 1 of them was crumbling.Maybe a fluke. I have always used GM rubber.

I have one C-3 with poly and one with new rubber mounts. You can tell the ride difference. I notice the bumps in the road much more with the poly. The rubber is a softer ride. It's up to how you want the car to perform which way you go poly or rubber.

I took out my poly bushings about 3 yrs ago because they increased the rattles and sqweeks (spelling ??). No regrets in going back to rubber mounts.

I did have one issue, the body moves more now and it hit my heavy duty aftermarket drive shaft, so I had to go back to the stock size.

The original rubber mounts lasted 30 years so most people will never need to change them again because the car is in the garage 99.5% of the time.

Default Stick W/Rubber!

Since our cars are fiberglass and a bit brittle, I would go w/rubber. Less vibration means less rattles and squeaks. I would use poly on all suspension areas that we want to take the slop out of. JMHO

but Lyle, you'll have to stop using common sense. Seems to upset some folks around here.

Not arrogant at all. Just someone giving an opinion, right? "Everybody?" not agreeing with this point of view? I'm certainly not seeing it that way.
