Default Steering

I have a 78 with TT. I had the wheel off changing the turn signal over the weekend. The problem that I have now is the blinkers doesn't work and the horn goes off each time that I turn the igniton to the run position or to the off. . I have checked the the harness for the turn signals and it is plugged in.

Did you take anything off besides the steering wheel, how about the hub and were there any bits of plastic laying around?

Yes, I had the everthing apart up to pulling the turn signal switches through the column. I disconnected the harness for the turn signals but didn't pull it through. One of the legs for the horn contact retainer plastic broke. could that possible be it? I ordered a new one yesterday.

If what you call the horn contact ring broke I believe the spring sits on it and without the leg it will short to ground causing the horn to blow. I don't have a picture but it sits on top this part.

Yep, that's the one. They break every time you try and get it off. Old plastic is brittle.

That plastic retainer is also an insulator. It prevents the large spring (that is part of the lower horn contact) from contacting the metal locking plate. Metal to metal contact will cause your horn to blow.
