I've had them on my '69 convert. since, oh about 1972 or so. Not the same tires of course. I've had BFG Radial T/As and Goodyear Eagles. At full lock the inside rear of the tire rubs on the frame, otherwise they don't touch anywhere.
If you go to the 255's there may be an issue with trying to get the wider tire in the spare tire carrier. I had 235/60's on my 73 and had trouble getting the spare in and out of the carrier. Also the speedometer diddn't read correctly. I just bought 5 new BFG' radial T/A's in a 225/70, no rubbing anywhere, the fully inflated spare fits nicely in the carrier and the speedometer reads accurate again. they're identical to the tires on "PETEZ06" 's vert above. <<Steve>>
Thanks, I think I am going to go with the 235's in front and on my spare and 255 on back.
There is nearly an inch difference between those two tires so using the 235 spare on one rear with a 255 on the other rear could be detrimental to your differential.
A better choice would be to pick up a 215/70-15 to use as a spare. It is very nearly the same height as the 255 you've chosen (26.9 vs 27) and is narrow enough (8.5") to fit in the carrier very well.
Here's a link to a good tire size comparison calculator you might want to explore: http://wheelsmaster.com/rt_specs.jsp. If you're using stock wheels, adjust the offset on the calculator to get a backspacing of 3 3/4" to 4" to get the tire width correct. -12mm offset will get you a 4" backspacing.
