Default Rack Attack Installation

I am usually in the C2 area... but I got a rack attack from VBP and know y'all have installed some of these on your C3s. I am having a small problem. I cannot for the life of me get the C shaped brackets over the rubber cushions on the rack.. the ones that bolt the rack to the brackets... is there any science to it? I have tried many things and still can't get it on enough to bolt it to the brackets..

A few guys have installed the Rack Attack system but they must not be on the forum tonight. Maybe you could search the C3 forums to find out who has installed one and then PM them.

I installed the Rack Attack in my '70. There are 2 different brackets. One is rounded and the other is more square. They are different sizes so if you have them backwards they will not fit. If they came like mine did you probably did not receive any detailed instructions. I downloaded the instructions from speedirect.com. There is virtually no difference between the two.

You might want to give it more than an hour and a half.

I know I was joking.. but I do have the brackets on the right side.. I got VBP to actually send me instructions on email at their DVD was horrible. Both brackets on correct side.. just a b#$*h to put on I guess?? Can I spead them a bit to make it easier?

I wouldn't try to spread them. If you do the bolt holes probably won't line up. Try getting hold of VB&P's tech support. They are actually pretty good. Their kits are all packed by hand and it's possible they sent you the wrong brackets.

I concur on all the above, I installed mine and the bracket difference could give you grief.

Well one bracket is flat.. that goes on the passenger side.. the other bracket is a v groove that goes on the driver side. The bushing for the v groove is flat and not V groove that VBP sent me. I checked online, and the stock buching for a 92 Grand Am is V groove, so I will be picking one up at kragen and giving it a whirl.

I agree I installed the same rack on my 71 and VBP gave me 2 of the same brackets in my kit. While the one on the pass side is different the the drivers side,I called their tech support and alerted them to the problem and they sent me the right bracket. It seems that they have done the same thing to you.

The brackets were fine.. I had one with a D shaped inside, and the other one with a round inside hole. The D shaped one has a V grove in it, but the bushing they gave me, which was also D shaped, did not have the V groove. I picked up the right bushings with the V groove on the driver side, and it installed in 5 seconds. Dunno why they sent me this one.. but it doesn't fit.
