I bought this 71 in boxes so I didn't remove the hinge assemblies on the deck lid. They still have the springs mounted on them. I have heard this is not an easy job. Would like some information on the tools used and ect. Bolt lengths would help.
The hinges are really not that hard to install. You bolt them to the bottom with one bolt, and there are two bolts that attach it to the rear panel. Once you have the hinge tower in place you bolt the deck lid on. Should be pretty easy to do if you have a helper. You will need to make adjustments after you have it all back together.
I looked at the PDF AIM for your car but the original bolt numbers did not cross over to a current number in the parts book. I can't help you on the thread size, but I do remember the lower bolt being about 1.25" long. with the back bolts only about 3/4" long.

I have done frame off restorations and those four top bolts are by far the hardest thing I ever installed. They make removing the bolts on a power brake booster or removing a radiator without breaking the shroud look like a piece of cake.
Those four bolts are probably the absolute worst to remove and replace I have ever experienced, don't expect to get it done in a hurry. After many hours of frustration,I threw them away and loctited some studs in and used nuts and lockwashers instead.I detached the springs at the top to help give myself a bit more room to get at the bolts.I believe they are attached to the rear deck before it is bonded on at the factory, there's no way in hell it could be done on the assy line!

The passenger side took three hours and the skin off my little finger. The drivers side only took a half hour but the bolts set at an angle making the job much easier. I would never remove them but bubba helped me out on this car.
