Default Major Winter Project/Wiring Harness Install

Hi everyone
I have gathered parts for the last year so that I can start correcting the cockpit of my 69 vert.

I'll be changing out the upper dash pad, tach and all guages, also the heater controls and a complete wiring harness front to rear, also the heater core is leaking so that has to go.
I have new carpet and sound/heat barrier to install as well.
I have a tilt/tele column to install, with a new rag joint, and a DeWitts twin fan assembly to be mounted on the aluminum rad already installed.
These are just some of the high points that I want to get done this winter.

Besides taking pictures during the tear down,is there any advice that I would find helpfull?

A question I have is about fitting the fibre optics into the light housings, I have no idea in how they go together, and what do I use to crimp the brass sleeve to the optic cable?

Another question is the astro vent on the rear deck, mine is missing the actuator, any idea of a replacement, I have not seen one listed in any of the parts suppliers catalogs.

Thank you to all for your suggestions!

You shouldnt need to crimp anything...The fiber optic cable has a rubber grommet that slips over a fitting on the light housing.

Hi M57,
I think it's a good idea to tag each connector and light socket as you take the old harness out. It takes a bit of time but then you have a great guide when you're putting the new harness in.
I don't think I've ever seen the astro actuator in a catalogue either. I think your going to have to find a used one from 1 of the Corvette salvage vendors. Would Wilcox have something like that?
You need to be very careful with the center gauge bezel. It's VERY easy to break the top part off if it's not already broken.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for the response guys.
I have had the gauge bezel out a few times already, it is a tight fit!
My light housings only have a hole in them, the new harness has what seems like a brass sleeve the would press in from the inside of the housing, then the rubber over top of that from the rear of the housing, is this correct?
Bubba was at my car big time, nothing is as it should be!
