Hi.
I am in the process of buying a 1969 350 short block. I have not seen the engine yet as it is for sale a long way from where I live, so I have asked the owner for the casting and suffix codes. The casting code is 3970010 I think this is correct for a 350 block. The suffix he gave me is CEOA 08625 I don't reconise this as a suffix code ! Does anyone reconise it or could it be some other code on the engine block. The engine is suposed to be from a 1969 vett
Looks like a chevy replacement engine to me. I think they used the "CE" designation for those. You'll need the date codes off the back by the distributor to know what year it's from.
I didn't think the 3970010 blocks were used as original equipment in 1969. I may be wrong though.
The other code, well, I'm not sure about it. I'd expect the suffix to be on the END of the code. Like xxxxxCE if it was a replacement engine. There should be 2 sets of numbers on the front left pad. Have him give you ALL of those. One line will be the engin manufacture information with the suffix code. The other should match the VIN.
