think i found the smell. thought it might be the heater core but found the hose to it was leaking. the old hoses were preformed so i put regular straight hose on it . the hose is a little kinked from trying to make the bend. heater is working ok. do you think this will be ok until i get stock equipment ones. thanks, namvet6869
Lucky it wasn't the heater core - replacing hoses is MUCH easier than swapping out a heater core!
You should be ok with your fix for now - heck many a folk (me included) have put in a shutoff value to totally keep coolant from flowing to the heater core ... so a kink in the hose shouldn't cause any harm for a short while.
For a more permanent fix - you could also take a wire coathanger, form it to the bends in the hose and check your local autoparts stores for a close fit. I have done that and gotten good hoses without having to wait for a mail order, and typically less $$ also.
Yeah...the straight hose should be fine...it's just a bypass line anyway. When I had to replace my heater core I had them attach the same size tube and had them bend it so that a straight hose worked.
