Default Piston Ring ?

I'm getting ready to install my SB Speed Pro rings and noticed there are 2 different chamfer sizes on the ID of the 2 rings. Which one goes in the top groove the big chamfer or small?

Thanks

If one is shiny along the edge that faces the cylinder wall, that's your top ring. Dots or paint marks face up.
Did you rings not come with any instructions?

It looks like you may have a top ring and a second ring there. Whats the P/N??

Yes, they are 2 different rings. One has a pink stripe and the other has a pink/red stripe. One has a larger ID bevel than the other. The directions that came with them (Speed Pro R-9903) don't say which is the top ring (pink one or pink/red one). It says the dimple should face the top.

The pink and red ring should be the shinny ring and with the dot to the top the inside bevel should be on the top side of the ring.

The ring with just the pink should be the second ring black on the outside which is your scraper ring and with the dot up the inside bevel should be on the bottom side. Carl

When you unwrapped the rings, which one was on top? Most of the packages I've seen have one of 3 things.

1 When you unwrap, the rings are stacked in the correct order

2 The wrapper has the order printed on it

3 the box has all of the top rings in one compartment, 2nd rings in another and the oil ring parts in the third.

Dots always go to the top of the piston. Make sure the ends of the oil ring spreader are butted together and not "stacked"

BLOCKMAN. Thanks for the reply. To bad I installed the PINK ring on top! I only have the rings installed on the pistons, so it won't set me back to far.

The shinny ring is your moly ring and goes on the top and the darker ring goes in the second groove.

Its a good time to catch a problem now then find out the hard way!!

Good luck
