not sure what i've done but i took outside door handles off to paint the car. now the actuating rod that pushes down to operate the latch hardly moves, even by hand. the only thing that was taken loose was the three screw that holds the latch assy to the door. its like its in permanent lock or something. inside door handle operates just fine. any ideas out there ?

The end of that rod that connects the outer handle to the latch assembly is threaded and that pins to the latch. I have a feeling the end piece has been moved down on that shaft, which might have shortened the travel of the rod. I would imagine that if you threaded the end piece up on that shaft, it would give you more travel to open the door from the outside.
