C3 Battery box
I have a side post battery in my battery box. It went dead. It is a maintanence required battery. I had it propped up diagonal so that I could get my charger leads connected to the battery and let it charge for 3 days...I now have enough juice to turn the engine over easily.
Problem: Since the battery was somewhat diagonal, electrolyte has leaked from the top cell plug and drained into the battery box and out through the hole in the bottom. How stable is the battery box? What should I really be focusing on? Should I get a brush and some baking soda and watter and scrub the box or reglass the whole thing or what ?
First, neutralize the acid- baking soda and water- wash the poo out of it and also the bottom of the box under the car. Scrub it. Rinse it and scrub it again. Then use some good paint. I don't know for sure about your Vette, but I'd think the box is 'glas. The acid shouldn't hurt it, but I'd sure want to clean it up and repaint.
I'd also bet that your battery is going to die soon. When they get tipped as far as you describe, the acid gets to the straps inside that connect the cells and will eat them. And then you have a combination of 2 volt batteries and no way to get them to add to 12.

When you look for a new battery get one with both side and top posts; makes it much easier to hook up a charger. I got one at Auto Zone.
