water is a by-product of combustion, a little water out the tailpipe is ok, but if coolent is getting into your engine, it will go out the tailpipe... the taste test never fails.. also beware it may be getting into your oil also.. check your dipstick for anything foamy..
antifreeze in the tailpipe or foamy oil = trouble...
Is it possible to have a blown head gasket and not have the large billow of white smoke? I'm loosing antifreez at about a qt. every 50-60 miles. No spots on the garage floor or ground, no leaks at the hoses, it just disapears. Where the hell is it going?
Dave
it may not show on a pressure test.....could be leaking on the down (vacuum) stroke...good luck sounds like a gasket to me or a leak at the intake water passage
No funky smell, just a little white smoke and moisture at the exhaust. I didn't notice the smoke before, or the moisture on the ground. No power loss, but now there seems to be a slight slip in the trans. at highway speeds. I lost on this one. The last car I owned with a blown headgasket smoked and I had oil in the coolant. None of that this time.
By the way, thanks for the help guys.
Dave
Do you have an auto tranny? If it's like my 71, the tranny lines run to the radiator for cooling and back. I bet your radiator has rusted out in a spot and you are losing tranny fluid into your radiator and getting some of it sucked back into your tranny which is causing your missing fluid and slippage.
This happened to a 66 Mustang I had. Bottom of the radiator rusted through, allowing tranny fluid to leak into the radiator. I kept losing fluid and didn't know where it went. Then my antifreeze started turning pink. NOT a good sign!
Check your coolant and tranny fluid with the car running and see if this is the problem. Good luck!
