With the two sets of cams it seems like the ideal motor. Good gas mileage and low end and then at 3500 RPM the second set of cams kicks in. And it would be very easy to swap new cams in it I would think.

the lt5 was good in theory but in reality parts are rare and expensive, very limited aftermarket parts, and a #@($ to work on. Good luck finding a mechanic locally to work on it. But im not telling you not to. I wanna see an lt5 in a c3.

Cams work full time, its the second set of injectors that turn on, like driving a double pumper (feel) only with EFI. Stock cams are more than sufficient. With porting the top end and headers you can reach 430-450rwhp+ easy.
Its a great motor youll never have to worry about breaking. Heavy sucker though.
pnwzr1.net he can help you on the swap

I'm thinking it would be a big pain to swap cams. You still have to pull the front of the motor off to get to the timing chains.

I looked into doing an LT5 swap about 7 years ago before I did the LS1 swap. At that time, used engines were about $10k and parts were hard to come by. I would hate to see prices these days.

There was a thread on this maybe 2 years ago or more with some photos. There was somebody in Florida that had done a swap, don't think it was a forum member. It was a silver 68-72 vert as I recall. Keep digging, it could be done.

That said, I think an LS is probably less expensive and easier to install up front and can have the same power for less money overall.

I would go with LS Series engine. I don't think a LT-5 would even fit!

I agree an LS engine would could have more power, but what about efficiency for a daily driver that you take all over the place? Is the LS series better there too? Is so, then this would be a no brainer (after I got all 10,000 issues squared out).

efficiency for a daily driver? LS1 hands down. The C5's are getting 15-17 in town and 27ish on the highway.

Cool factor, LT-5. The only cooler vette engine would be an LS9 or an aluminum 427.

There was a guy who posted pics of a twin turbo LT-5 that wa going in an 82. Not sure if i can post a link to the blue site, but if you type in "1982 c3 with twin turbo lt5" it will come up
Also, as someone else said, there was a silver 70 I think on ebay with a LT5 also.

What kind of mileage does an LT5 get around town? I think I get more than 17 around town now.

17 is about right but you can get into the pedal when you want and still get that number. Hwy 24+.Some report more but with 4.09s thats my avg.
