Starter question
I am getting ready to install headers on my 76 350 and would like to replace my old oil soaked starter with a new one. The two options that I have been thinking about : High torque mini or lightweight starter from 93-97 lt1. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

The late model truck starters, are high torque and mini.
Edit: Excludes LS engine starters.

I think GM changed the starter mounting bolt pattern sometime in the early 70's. Went from stagered holes to inline or something like that.

The larger flywheels, 168 tooth used a staggered bolt setup the small, 153 tooth used a straight bolt pattern. I have the mini GM starter from the mid 90s cars/trucks and it works great. Never a problem hot or cold.

I have both staggered and straight holes. If the PO hasnt changed the flywheel, how many teeth should it have? What years is the mini starter used?

Mini starter is used on C4s, 88 up I believe. 95-97 (as applicable) B-body and F-body with 5.7L LT1. Also trucks and Suburbans, at least 4wd 90-99.

So just to be sure, the F-bodies use the same number of teeth on the flywheel? Sorry I'm a little slow tonight.
