It's time to dig into my rear bearing assemblies as I progress with my restoration. Looking through all the threads, it seems as if one alternative to rebuilding is just to buy a complete rebuilt assembly. I've seen mention of Ikerd's selling a quality product. Anyone have experience with VBP's complete assembly? It's signficantly cheaper, but is this a case of you get what you pay for?
Hello,
I am in the process of replacing the rear bearing on my 75 because of the failure of the bearings and spindle.
I sent the entire T/A to VAN STEEL in Florida. Shipping by UPS ground was under $50. I got my complete T/A assembly today and it looks brand new. I read so many threads on the forum about bearing replacement that I did not want to do it myself due to so many special tools being needed to pull the bearing out, and to reinstall it properly.
Do a search of the forum, and you will find several choices. I went with some of the opinions of members that I respected the answers from and am glad I did.
Hopefully this weekend I will be back on the road with my new T/A arm, wheel bearing and matched rotor.
One area where you don't want to find repopped [Chinese] parts, is a rebuilt T/A. If the price is 'significantly less', you should be suspicious of the replacement part quality. Go to a source that is highly recommended for such hardware.
