The NAPA part does have the "disc brakes" logo.

Different package but the same pad it looks like. It should be
one inch less then the original.

Since our last disussion I have been able to obtain a brake pedal assembly from a Forum member for a reasonable price. It is...a little rough...but I only wanted the pedal. This was just an experiment as I may follow the original suggestion of cutting the pedal on the car at the moment.

It is now tidied up. And the pedal is very solid and useable.

I have not cut it for the shorter rubber pad at this point as I do not have the proper saw blades. And of course this is a holiday: no stores open. But if/when I cut it I have a question. If I renew those nylon sleeves etc., how difficult is it to replace that pedal on the car? Do I have to drop the whole assembly or just remove the locking speed nut and pull out the pin and bushings? I don't have my car at home and can't peek up there!

Hi Paul,
I don't want to discourage you about replacing the whole pedal,
but there is quite a bit more work in replacing the assembly then
just cutting it in the car. It took me about five minutes from
start to finish to complete and this is what I did. Remove old pad,
measure, mark, cut (with saw not grinder),file, paint, then apply
the new pad. If you do replace the pedal assembly you'll be a couple
of hours with removing the drivers side dash, which is a pain with out
breaking anything and that alone would be enough to discourage me.
With an interior as nice as yours (your whole car is supper nice)I
would lean more towards not removing any part unnecessarily.

I have recently driven the car and this new shorter pad has made
a huge difference.

Riggs.

No real harm done so far. Given the condition of the pedal assembly as shown in my pic (very corroded) the price paid was minimal. Sometimes when it's -5*F outside, an indoor/basement project keeps a person busy.

I figured the dash had to come out. After replacing the heater core last summer I really don't want to do that type of work again. So come April I will probably wimp out and just lop off the existing pedal with a SawzAll.

Default Update

I have driven the car a few times since this modification and would have to say, WOW
what a difference this made. It makes it more enjoyable to drive.

I'll cut the one in the car in April. A friend has the appropriate saw. And yes I am sure it makes quite a difference. That simultaneous gas and brake pedal push is so darn annoying.

Did I ever tell you about the time I spent a good part of the weekend driving the vette, with the 4 spd, and then Sunday afternoon I go to run an errand in the Volvo station wagon and I accelerate on the freeway on ramp and instinctively lifted my right foot off the gas and slammed my left foot down... on the brake! (looking for the nonexistent clutch of course) .... whoops! Fortunately noone was behind me!

This is before cutting. When I put the new covers on I found I still didnt have enough space between the two pedals. I then removed the Lokars brand covers & basically did the same thing as Riggs74 did but then slid my Lokars brand cover over to the left and rebolted it. I now have 2.5" between the pedals. I'll try to get a pic of the finished product on soon.

Thanks Man! It looks a little odd odd now as the pedal rod/bar is not center of the padal actually it's now way over to the right side of the pedal but with big 13" gun boats I got tired of doing accidental power stands! HA!!
