Teresa,
Iwas all over the road with my '82.I tried most of the fixes here and the one that resolved my problem was an alignment from someone who knew what he was doing.I have had no steering problems since.I know you've already spent your money, but is it possible to have another alignment "expert" check out your 'vette?

Hey Guys,
I ,too am wondering if the guy who did my last alignment knew what he was doing. He was not a specialist in Corvette alignment but the only one close by. Does anyone in the Sweetwater,TN. area (East TN.) know of a specialist in Vette alignment? Would a Chevy dealership do this kind of work?
Should I let someone (alignment guy) drive my car and take their word for what's wrong? Should I trust anyone who doesn't drive a Vette themselves to drive mine and tell me what they think is wrong? I guess I'm just a silly ole girl. :( :seeya
If I din't have a good general mechanic (at least someone I trust) or a good frame/alignment shop in area (someone I've heard a lot of good about), then I'd probably default to the GM dealership. They should at least have all of the specs and hopefully would follow the correct procedures.
I think finding a shop you can trust (with any car let alone the Corvette) is extremely difficult. I would have trusted my dad to drive my car and tell me what was wrong, but he was a mechanic for 30+ years. Trust it with just anyone :nonod:
I feel the exact same way Jerry. I don't trust to many people any way let alone with my Vette. My Dad has been a mechanic for 30 yrs. too. A foreign car mechanic though :( :seeya
only know of two places out here in the Bay Area that i trust to align my '69. with 4 wheel independant its just like doing two front end alignments. i'm not sure what prices are like in TN, but out here it costs $150.00 to align a Vette, any less than that an i promise they are not doing it right, just the shim pack for the trailing arms is $50.00. i had problems with my trailing arm bushing, that caused the car to wander, changed those and everything was cool. i did once lose a set of shims out of the left rear once,(the shop didn't put the long cotter key in to prevent them from falling out) and the car was flat out scary to drive, under braking it would dart one way, accelerating, it would dart the other way, and on bumps you never knew which way the car was going to go. once you get your issue fixed though the car should handle well, i'm running Firestone Firehawk SZ50's (255/50/ZR16) the same tire i had on my '85, and its was a night and day difference from running 15 inch tires, now my C3 will outhandle alot of newer cars on mountain roads, always blows them away to get worked by a chrome bumper vette on the windey twisties!! Good luck.
