Low Blow(er)
I'm have a problem with the heater fan. Seems it only works on low speed. I have been reading the treads on blower motors but they all appear to deal with A/C cars which mine is not. Does a non-A/C car have the high speed relay? If so, any ideas where it might me?

Check the High/Low blower resistor. Just to the right of the heater core tubes. Should have a three-wire connector.
This is the A/C version but yours will be similar. A break in one of the coils is common.

If yours is bad I might still have a spare one I removed from a '74 that was in good working order.

]Thanks DB. I may have to take you up on that. I went out and checked under the hood where this thing is supposed to be and could find nothing. I took a picture of the area. Am I missing something besides the part?

How's this?
I should add that a PO put the ZZ4 in and had his way with a lot of the wiring. When I got the car all the vacuum lines were plugged except the power brakes and a lot of the wiring under the dash had spliced into and Bubba'd up. So if this is missing it wouldn't surprise me a bit.
IF the '70 heater is the same as the '69, then the heater resistor is not located on the firewall. I can't see one on my non-air '69 firewall - I just looked. So I pulled out Bizzoco's 1969 Stingray Guidebook, page 142, and it looks like the resistor is located on the front part of the heater case inside the car, facing the firewall. Kind of hard to describe, but if you feel up there towards the center of the car, inboard of where the case is attached to the firewall, where it's angled about 45° to the firewall, you should feel it or see it with a mirror. I don't know if you can remove it without removing the heater case, maybe if you can stand on your head and have a high degree of manual dexterity it can be done. Like I said in the beginning, that is if the '70 is like the '69, which is certainly possible. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I'm 61 years old and don't do much standing on my head anymore. I'll feel around for it but if it's there my mechanic will have some work to do!

I believe Pete is correct and I fouled up above. Have a peek at this diagram.
I think it's safe to say there are no relays in our cars except one for the Seat Belt warning light that is extinguished by pressing the button below it. I looked at the wiring diagram in the Chassis Service Manual and see no reference to a relay in the heater blower motor circuit.
We took the Vette out for a nice drive in the foothills around here this afternoon, and before we left I checked the location of the resistor. With the pass. door open, kneeling on the ground, I can reach the lower screw and the wiring harness connector. I think you could remove it fairly easily if you can work by feel and not by sight. Removing the right dash panel would probably make it easier to reach in there and possibly see what you're doing better.
The Chassis Service Manual gives instructions for replacing the resistor, in just three steps.
1. Disconnect wire at resistor unit.
2. Remove two screws to distributor duct and remove the resistor unit.
3. To install new unit, reverse the procedure.
There is no mention of removing the heater box.

Thanks everyone for your help! I was out driving in the snow today (it's not CA), and since I had some time while waiting for my wife, I started fooling around with the fan switch. I found out that if I hold the switch between the 3rd and 4th position the blower operates on high. So it looks like it just a bad switch. But I guess I learned a lot along the way. So thanks again!
