Finally got my Pace Car running like I suspect I knew it ought to run. Had to go through the fuel system replacing pump and rebuilding carb. Check ignition wires, isolated a bad plug, changed out cap and rotor (tho probably did not need it).
It takes corners sharply...Maybe smartly is a better word, almost like the C5 Z51 suspension. The Pace Car has FE7. Four speed shifts smoothly through all four, nice acceleration, tho I've got a squeaky fan above 3500 rpm. I believe the smog pump fanbelt is stretched to far, can't tighten it any more. With 56k miles...no sign of smoke either. Pulled a couple of plugs once I got back from a visit to the Saturday's cruise-in...burning clean both the older plugs and the one I replaced.
What this all means is that I can move forward with some other electrical problems and begin to do some interior resto work.
Good Job! Move on Tom and let me know if I can help you with the electrical bugs. Willcox
Thanks Willcox. Greatest challenge is figuring out what wires bubba cut and how to restore those to their original routing. I get up under the dash on the driver's side and wonder "what in the "H" did they do?"
I always find most of these problems are created by an electrical servant trying to wire in a new stereo or one of those old style power booster amplifiers. The trend is usually to grab the first hot wire they find and move from there.
I have an old harness out of a 79 so if you have connectors torn up let me know.
