I am having a 406 built and I am wondering if someone could run the specs on the desktop dyno for me/

World sportsman II heads w/ 64 cc chambers and mild port work
RPM air-gap intake
750 Demon double pumper
1 3/4 in hooker headers
edelbrock rpm cam (I think it is around 238/248 @.50)
10.5 CR
MSD ignition
386 HP @5500/ 391 ft lbs @ 4500. Why not use a little bigger cam. The Edelbrock RPM is a bit on the small side for that engine. How about a solid cam or a hyd from a different company? Here's some numbers you may like.
Comp 282S 411 hp @5000/ 470 ft lbs@3500. Solid
Comp 286H 393 hp @5000/ 443ft lbs @4000 hydraulic
Both of these will still be very mild (similar lift)with a slight lope and get you about the same power levels, but have much more torque. I'm not very impressed with any of the Edelbrock cams. There are much better grinds on the market.
Thanks for the info. How does Edelbrock claim 420 hp/400ft lbs with this cam in a 355? How accurate is the desktop dyno? I am going to dyno my car as soon as I get it back and breakin the motor, so it will be interesting to see where my HP ends up.
anyone got any ideas as to get some more bottom end power for less then $300 ? I'm running a TH400 and 3.08 gears and i wanna keep the gas mileage, and i wanna get at least a 12.9 this summer. right now Im a low low 13.. like maybe a 13.2 or 13.3

Mike, I haven't got a clue how they get those numbers. I tried different things using the info on their web site and still can't come close :confused: As far as the accuracy is concerned, my Dyno2000 numbers were 15 HP high compared to my chassis dyno numbers(after calculating driveline loss and net to gross loss). That's pretty damn close for a computer program. :)
Corzvette69, I ran your motor using cam specs for a generic Summit cam that sounds pretty close. The result was 332hp@5000/376 ft lbs@4000. The 385 hp in your sig is high. I then input your car in the DT drag program because I could not believe you could get low 13's out of that motor without going with 4.11's or lower. There is no way!!!! or so I thought. WOW, I could not believe it spit out a 13.187@104.85mph. :cool: Are you running a stall or is it a stock converter? With a 2500 stall, It spit out a 12.94@104.69. It may be time for me to pull the five speed and go back to my original th400. According to the drag program, I could pick up a full second by running the auto.

If you pull that five speed let me know if you are interested in selling :yesnod: . Automatic transmissions are pretty much ideal if you drag race often, very consistant and the chances of a user error are much lower than that of a standard transmission. With that being said, I'd take a standard transmission over an automatic any day of the week. You'd probably have to amputate my left leg in order to get me to put an automatic in my car (banging gears is just too much fun).

I do not have a summit cam in that car.. I believe its crane (blazer maybe) I'll have to ask the guy at the machine shop tomorrow.
I ran my specs on desktop dyno 2000 once i had the engine built, and it gave me a couple numbers. when i first got had the stock intake and rochester carb, gave me 345 hp and 390 ft lbs. then i added the performer intake and holley carb.. upgraded the ignition, wires, and bette plugs. gave me a reading of 385hp and 380 ft lbs. I guess I'll just have to slap some 2.02s and some roller rockers on there this winter, maybe a stealth intake also.
run those numbers in and see what you get.. maybe my old dyno thing was off by a mile..

Bence, It runs pretty good, but as you know, it's never enough ;) I've been messing around with my Gtech, but have not done better than 5.8sec 0-60. With the single plane intake, it needs to be launched at no less 2700 RPM. Unfortunatley, it just spins the tires for a while before it hooks up. I'll have to agree with you on the tranny. I'll give up the five speed when they take my leg :D
I do run a TH400 in my street rod and I have to say that it can be just as much fun as any manual out there. I would never even think of swaping in a 4 or 5 speed in that car. It's scary enough trying to keep it straight on the 1st to 2nd shift with the auto.
Corey, What cylinder head flow numbers did you use on the DT Dyno? Also, I saw the Gtech 1/4mi E/T in your sig. Did you ever do any 0-60 runs with it too. I'm curious of how it did. I have not had a chance to find a good spot to do the 1/4 yet, but hopefully soon. BTW You have a nice ride there. Sounds like it runs really strong too :cheers:

I'm assuming your C/R is about 9:1 with the 76cc heads. Also, there is no way to know the correct flow numbers since they have been ported. Using the generic ported head file, the result was 370hp@5000/418 ft lbs@3500. The torque at 2000 was 389. This thing should smoke the tires right off the rim :D I don't know the variable of the car such as weight ,driver weight, shift points, shift time loss, tires, etc...., but should be low 13's to mid 12's if driven properly.

I can only find half of the papers on my desktop dyno sheet..and the head flow numbers isnt one of them.. and i honestly dont remember.. my 0-60 runs were 8.0 (on the stock 350), then down to a 6.0 (K&N filter, Zmax additive, and exhaust) then a 5.5 on the 327 with stock intake and carb, right before my crash i was at 5.0, and last month i ran 4.7. . . . so the car has definatley gotten a lot faster.. I ran the 1/4 mile twice tho (Gtech) one on the 350 at a striking 16.2@90mph, then my 13.4@104 i never had a good spot to run it.. i was actually using my gtech when i sliced through bambi.. it said my 1/4 mile was 15.1@65mph.. (think that counts for spinning out of control?)
