Default AM/FM Stereo "Convector" mounting, 73

Can someone show me where this is mounted?

http://s421.photobucket.com/albums/p...=Convector.jpg

This is for my 'stereo' car. My other 73 is a 'mono' car and it has a smaller unit mounted behind the passenger's dash pad. But the stereo convector seems too large to mount there.

Page 86 of my Assy Manual isn't much help.

A photo would be great. Thanks!

This is the AMP from my 71' which is AM-FM Mono. The AIM does not show any other one but this regardless of radio.

Hi

This is the normal mono amp.

The stereo 2nd channel is inside a bigger box similar size to the radio itself mounted on the pax side under the upper dash panel.

This is for early C3s, 68, 69, 70 and ???

Don't know when the stereo channel moved inside the radio itself.

Here the pic of my 68 stereo radio with the stereo amp beside it. Note the mono amp little cooling fin mounted to the stereo channel box, it is the one shown in the pic above.
Hence, mono radio only have this small amp with the cooling fins, stereo have the big stereo channel + small amp.

The first photo above is what I have in my "mono" car (another 73). That mounting won't work with the stereo convector which is about twice as big (see photo in my first posting).

The 2nd photo is confusing. There appears to be two convectors; neither of which looks like mine.

Please advise.

Hi

OK, looks like if the 73 has already a more modern stereo convector/ampl. box.

My setup is for eraly C3s, like I mentioned, not sure until when exactly, probably 71 or 72.

By the way, my 68 AIM shows both setups, mono and stereo. Is the stereo one not in your 73 AIM ?

Page 83 of my 73 AIM isn't very detailed at all. It appears to show the convector mounted under the dash pad above the radio. Obviously all the AC/heater duct work would prevent that.

I know it's mounted on the passenger's side somewhere, just not sure where.

Please advise, and thanks!

Mine is a '72 and if you look where I have drawn the thick white line, that is where I mounted my larger stereo convector. It fit, but wasn't sure where it was supposed to go. Just make sure your screws are not too long or you could breach the windshield sealing and/or crack your windshield. Hope this helps....

Thanks Kansas. Just to make sure, on a 72-76, you don't use both the small heat sink (shown in the photo) AND the larger convector,..right?

As far as I know, you don't. I bought a perfectly reconditioned/rebuilt stereo and this is all I had, a large maybe called dual connnector. Haven't seen this other setup before.

One transistor for mono units; two transistors for stereo units. The convector is the final stage of amplification for the radio....one transistor per channel.

That makes sense. Thanks guys.

Still looking for a photo of a factory installed convector (aka amp) for Stereo AM/FM. I think Kansas123 above has the general area noted in the photo, but would still like to see a factory install. Anybody?

Thanks again,
Wes
