I'm thinking about puting a crate 502 into a recently acquired 1968 roadster. Anyone got any advice, or tips I should know before starting to shop for an engine? I found one on the year one web site that is around 6 grand. Seems like a fair price to me, but will it fit?? Are there other options?
Any canadian corvette fans out there that know of anyone that deals with crate motors close to home?(Toronto-London)
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated
I'm assuming a GEN 6 block 502. You'll need to add a electric fuel pump-since there’s no provision for a mechanical. If running a manual transmission- you'll need a bracket for the clutch z-bar (SDPC sells them- about $60) since there is no provision for it as well. And don't try to use the truck pan that comes w/ the crate 502- it’s way to close to the ground. Milodon and Moroso make several pans w/ better ground clearance.
Exhaust- all the standard big block stuff will work.
Suspension-if you had small block springs - they will work OK- IF the 502 has aluminum heads. If running the cast heads- new spring are a must.
L88 hood -unless you are using a lowrise intake and a drop base aircleaner..
Belt set-up- the 502 has a BIG balancer on it-so a serp set-up will most likely require notching the crossmember and using electric fans.
