Default Need help with distributor yoke

Hey I would like to know if I could take the passenger side yoke out of the distributor without dropping it. I would like to finish the job as quickly as possible. I have a 1980. Thanks

I would think a firm grip would prevent you from dropping it. Maybe put it in a vice if your grip is questionable.

What am I missing? There's a yoke in the distributor?

I'm sure he was just making a yoke with us and means differential.

And the answer is no.

What is wrong so that it needs to be removed?

Yeah it was 2.30 am when I wrote that, I meant differential. I don’t want to take it out of the car. I need to remove it because one of the u joint fastener screws broke inside of the yoke and I can drill it out for the life of me, I’ve tried everything. So the next step is getting it machined out or replacing it. Any advice? Thanks.

Is there enough of the bolt left in there to weld a nut on it?

The yoke is held in by a snap ring inside the diff. If the yoke has to come out the diff has to come out.

There’s not enough of the bolt left to weld anything on it, it broke ¼ of the way in. I was hoping I could take the snap ring off while the diff was in the car but I guess not. Thanks for all your responses I really appreciate it.

Explain what you have tried as far as drilling it out goes and why that has failed? You should be able to drill it provided you are using the proper drill bit and oil.

I’ve tried hardened metal drill bits, easy out kits, drill extractor bits. All I’ve successfully done is to make small dent. The screw just eats up all the bits.
