Default Restoring console/gauge plate???

I've seen a few who repainted their center console and or gauge plates.
Did you strip them down to bare metal or just clean with solvent/acetone and respray?

Hi G68,
I stripped mine down to the chrome plating. That way I didn't have to worry about the compatibility of the new paint with the original paint.
Regards,
Alan

I used brake cleaner. You don't have to remove all the paint. You do need to remove enough so that the pattern underneath the paint will look original.

Stripped all off with acetone, then resprayed.

Acetone is taking forever. Brake cleaner seems to be working faster.
