Quick question if anyone knows off hand, on my '82 I blew a transmission cooler line and lost a lot of fluid before I could nurse it back to my garage. Lucky I was close to home. The transmission was just beginning to act up due to low fluid as I got it in the garage. I have replaced the line but I do not want to start the car until I get some amount of fluid back into it. Ballpark with the vette setting level, cold and not running where would be a safe starting point on the dipstick for the fluid level to be?
If it was just starting to act up I wouldnt worry about starting it and checking the level.Put a quart in and start there but I would guess it will take 2 plus by the time your done checking.Take your time and run it through the gears while sitting still and each time you check put the stick in out several times wiping each time to get an accurate reading.Leave the level low on the stick and drive it to warm it up before taking the final reading.
I will do as you suggest. I did not want to crank it with the fluid being low enough to damage the transmission but did not want to overfill it either.
